About

I did a major in classical trumpet playing at the School of Music, University of Western Australia. The faculty is currently number 2 in Australia and in the top 40 music schools in the world.  Since then I have divided my time between playing classical and contemporary music - Jazz, Reggae, Pop, Funk, Soul and teaching in Australia and overseas.  My playing has landed me 2 WAMI's and another nomination among other accolades.   My work as a composer writing  classical music has been used for advertisements, ceremonies presentations and films.

I teach in a fairly informal manner which I am comfortable with due to the excellent results I continue to see in my pupils. My approach to trumpet playing is multifaceted.  Although technique is paramount to playing the instrument well, I also aim to look into aspects encompassed within musicianship itself.   Playing music well is no different to any other skill.  It requires a high level of commitment and discipline on the part of the individual.  Though I encourage  all pupils to take their time and enjoy the journey!

I like all lessons to flow naturally depending on each individuals needs and wishes.  No two lessons are ever the same and nor should they be.  At the very forefront of my teaching philosophy is the aim to make a student a great player.  There is no one correct way to do this therefore lessons are largely intuitively driven.

Warmups, technical studies, listening activities, set works, improvisation, harmonic and analysis of form and structure, composition.
