About

Veronica Lopez is a recent Carnegie Mellon University graduate with a BFA in Viola Performance and a minor in Conducting. She completed her certification in Music Education in December 2019 and student taught in the Mt. Lebanon School District/ Pittsburgh Public Schools. Currently, Veronica is working as an Elementary Long-Term Orchestra Substitute Teacher for the North Hills School District in Pittsburgh, PA.

A Los Angeles native, Veronica began her musical education, at the age of 11, in the Los Angeles Unified School District- Henry T. Gage Middle School. From Gage Middle School, Veronica went on to study at one of the premier performing arts high schools in the country, The Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. As a young musician, she volunteered and performed with many youth orchestra programs and community orchestras throughout the city such as, The Youth Orchestra Los Angeles, The Saturday Conservatory of Music, The North Torrance Youth Musicians Ensemble, The Bellflower Symphony Orchestra, and The Olympia Youth Orchestra.

As a professional violist, Veronica has broadened her horizons past only classical music. She has and continues to perform various new works by student composers as well as older professionals. In the five years that Veronica has lived in Pittsburgh, she has become incredibly invested in the community. As a fairly new resident of the Pittsburgh community, she has joined community orchestras such as the Pittsburgh Philharmonic and serves as principal chair of the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra. In her free time, Veronica enjoys finishing books from her rather long list, exercising and practicing self-care, and exploring new restaurants and sites in the city!

I'm looking forward to getting to meet and work with you! Please do not hesitate to message me with any questions or concerns.

All of my beginner students begin with Essential Elements Book 1. After completion of the book, I move to Book 2 that focuses on scales and technique. Studies are supplemented with additional scale and technique books as we progress.

My intermediate and advanced students begin by playing a piece, etude, exercise, etc. that they have been focusing on. This allows me to assess their current level and how to progress.

I focus specifically on proper form for all ages and technique while still incorporating musicality. All students should be taught musicality and technique together not one or the other. Our lessons will also involve mental and physical practice technique.
