About

I would be honored to be a part of your musical journey! I am a fun, warm, and knowledgeable teacher with over eight years of experience in teaching piano and voice lessons.  I have been playing piano and singing for decades -- I can't remember a time when music wasn't a major part of my life. I can help beginner piano students learn the basics and develop a great foundation for a lifetime of music, or I can help a classical soprano prepare for college auditions, and everything in between.

I have a Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Performance from Wheaton College Conservatory of Music and have performed in various professional ensembles and as a soloist. I have performed significant roles in various musicals  and operas such as Little Women, Plain and Fancy, Pirates of Penzance, The Tender Land, Le Nozze di Figaro, Orfeo ed Euridice, Carmen, Don Giovanni, and more. I have performed and sung music in a variety of styles, including classical, musical theater, pop, country, jazz, and more.  As a pianist I have performed in a variety of areas, and I specialize in teaching others how to play piano and sing at the same time.

In addition to this, I have also completed an equivalency degree from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Music Therapy and am a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC). This music therapy background makes me a great choice for with autism or other developmental disabilities, as I have the unique training needed to help these students succeed.

I enjoy teaching students of all ages and abilities. I like to get to know my students on a personal level and have fun during lessons. For all my students, I believe that enjoyment is the key to finding the motivation for practicing. I will gently push students to help them set and reach goals, but always try to make sure that we are having some fun along the way. I want you to be an active participant in what your lessons look like, and I want to help you play or sing your dream songs. Each person is unique, so lessons will look different for everyone.

Piano: I prefer to use the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures Series, but I am open to other books if you already own

Voice: I tend to assign songs on an individual basis rather than buy an entire book. However, I may recommend a book of songs if I know we will get a lot of use out of it.
