Overview:

I started on violin in 4th grade and switched to viola in 6th grade.  I was involved in private lessons, youth orchestras, competitions, City, District, Regional and All State orchestras while I was growing up.  In 1991 I graduated from the State University of New York with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Music.  From there I attended Carnegie Mellon University and received my Music Education Certification in 1995.  I received my Masters in Music in 2000 from the University of Denver.  I have taught in public schools and privately over the last 24 years and performed with local and regional orchestras, in chamber music groups for weddings and events and as a soloist in recitals.

Susanna has been teaching private lessons for over 27 years and is currently available to teach weekly lessons at her home in Pittsburgh, PA,  or online. Susanna  has helped students improve their playing abilities on violin, viola, and cello, to successfully audition for youth orchestras, competitions, college auditions and ASTA or PMEA events, provides traditional classical training on violin, viola, and cello and shares her passion for music.

Susanna received her training at State University of New York in 1991 where she received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Music and from University of Denver in 2000 where she received a Masters in Music. She has studied with Sol Grietzer, Karen Dreyfus and Basil Vendryes. In addition, she received her Music Education Certification in 1995 from Carnegie Mellon University. As an expert in her field, Susana looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals. Susanna teaching style is positive, patient and constructive, focused on the individual student's needs, and enjoyable. Susanna will work at your pace.

I start beginning students in Essential Elements for Strings, Book 1 and Book 2.  After this I move to Samuel Applebaum's First Position Etudes and Building Technique with Beautiful Music.  Then I move to books by Harvey Whistler, Franz Wohlfahrt, Barbara Barber, Suzuki and others.

For intermediate and advanced students, I have the students play something for me to get a good idea of the student's strengths and weaknesses and then pick material to help the individual student met their goals and needs.
