Sean Rubin
About
Hello, and thank you for visiting my page!
I've been a professional bassist in the northeast of USA for over 15 years. I've performed with broadway tours, internationally celebrated and touring rock & indie bands alike, and have produced musicians and artists of all types of genres. I've played sold out shows at venues like Bowery Ballroom (NYC), Lincoln Hall (CHI), The Sinclair (BOS), and performing Art Centres all over North America. From toughing it out in a van racing to the next gig, to being treated like royalty in a PAC's green room, I've seen and been through a lot!
I've also been a professional educator since 2008, and have taught many students how to find their voice in the music industry. Whether you are a budding musician just starting out or a seasoned pro looking for some new perspectives, I'm ready to offer up my perspectives on not only how to play the bass, but what other professionals are looking for when they're hiring a musician to perform in their project.
I pride myself in providing an empathetic and passionate teacher, and I'll do my very best to ensure that whatever lesson you purchase is one you'll never forget.
Shoot me a message and lets find a time to meet up! thank you for putting your trust in me.
I have a very easy-going teaching style, that prioritizes what you need to make our lessons fun yet deeply educational. I am extrremely well versed in sight reading and standard notation, and am always happy to whip up a quick PDF of an exercise if you need it. I also have a wide knowledge of myriad of styles, each lending themselves to a deeper understanding of what makes certain styles of music so meaningful to us as listeners, and how to best express that to our audiences.

“Sean was my pillar in developing my instrumental playing. All of my fundamental and intermediate skills he taught me placed me into music conservatory, where I’ve graduated and continued playing at a professional level. Whenever I feel stuck, I remember my roots and push forward.” - Baker-- Former Student
"I am now a much more confident player for having studied with Sean. He is a patient and
encouraging instructor, and by far the best music teacher I could have hoped for. I give him my
highest recommendation." Harry -- Former Student
I use a combination of teaching methods, rooted in my background in my Bachelors in Classical Double Bass Performance from The Hartt School of Music as well as my "school of hard knocks" methods of playing countless gigs in North America.

For Electric Bass, My priority is to get you groovin' with precise time that feels the inferred subdivisions of whatever genre it is that you're learning. We'll work with drum machines, backing tracks & metronomes to find your sound and how to fit well into others. I'm also a highly experienced performer who knows what it takes to get a crowd excited about a show, and how stage presence is so important when sharing your gift of music with an audience.
