About

Neil Kimel  has been second horn of Chicago's Lyric Opera Orchestra since 2008 as well as second horn of Chicago's Grant Park Orchestra since 2000.  In addition to recent solo (Haydn Concerto #2 and Mozart Concerto #3) and chamber music (Brahms Horn Trio) appearances, Neil is on the adjunct faculty of DePaul University teaching horn as well as a chamber music coach at Northwestern University.  He has presented masterclasses at Indiana University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Northwestern University as well as many other prestigious institutions and performed with the Symphony Orchestras of Chicago, Dallas, St. Louis, Toronto, Milwaukee, Nashville and the Cleveland Orchestra.

Neil works closely with students personalizing his approach to each player.  He specializes in orchestral and operatic excerpts as well as solo repertoire and audition preparation.  Those players who would like improvement to their low range and sound will receive unique ideas and approaches on this topic.  Anyone experiencing nerves and not performing or auditioning up to their best level will be exposed to practice and mental techniques that will streamline preparation and improve consistency.
