About

Hello! My name is Nate and I have been teaching lessons for 4 years, including 4 years of volunteer work with kids of all ages, but am just now switching to the online format! I am a trombonist that is currently living in San Francisco, and studying with Timothy Higgins, principal trombone of the San Francisco Symphony. Having extensively studied Trombone and General Music at Indiana University, I specialize in intermediate to advanced Trombone students, but can also teach beginners Music Theory, Ear Training, Piano, Euphonium, Trombone and Tuba. I teach all levels of students, from beginners to Advanced High School and College Students. Feel free to reach out with any questions, I am excited to begin working with you!

I am a firm believer that each student learns in different ways and at different paces. It is imperative to me that each student receives a personalized teaching plan, and equal amounts of attention and care from their professor. I teach students to advance their technical proficiency through the practice of chasing artistry and developing a musical personality. I also emphasize skills that a student must have if they desire to be a musician: Organization, Healthy Self-Critique, How to set goals and achieve them, and how to interact with colleagues professionally. For the younger musician this normally involves teaching them of how to be aware of others around them and how to generally be a better person. I believe that through this, and with proficient practice on technical skill, each student will be a musician that is ready to market themselves and their product upon leaving my studio.

International Trombone Festival Gagliardi Solo Competition, Winner

Southeastern Trombone Symposium, S.E. Shires Solo Competition, Finalist

Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, B.M. Trombone Performance.

Current M.M. Student, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Timothy Higgins, Teacher.

Orchestra NEXT Trombone Fellow

My teaching style revolves heavily around the Arnold Jacobs School of Song & Wind. This focuses on the ability to perform music as an artist, and develop the inner voice that in turn trains the ear and lips to be more connected to the rest of the machine. With proficient technical practice, and practice of creating music and art, my students gain the ability to market themselves as a "The Complete Musician" upon leaving my studio.
