About

I am a professional cellist, with higher studies in Germany and Belgium. I have experience teaching at different levels and ages. For me, the most important thing is to find the balance between learning to play the instrument and enjoying making music.

Born in la Garriga (Barcelona) in 1997, Mariona Camats started playing the cello when she was six years old under the mastery of Anna Mora. She continued her studies with Lluís Claret and with Julius Berger in Leopold Mozart Zentrum from Augsburg University. She was an artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel from 2019 to 2021, under the tutelage of Gary Hoffman. She has won the first prize at several national competitions, as well as international: at the Flame Competition in Paris (2012), where she also won the “Grand Prix”-, at the International Vic Cello Festival Competition (2014) and at the Johannes-Andreas-Stein Wettbewerb (2016). In October 2016, she won the Pablo Casals International Scholarship, granted by the Pablo Casals Foundation. She has also performed in Festival Pablo Casals 2017 in Prades, in several concerts in The International Holland Music Sessions, in the Supercello Festival 2018 in Beijing, in the Festival Emergents 2019 from L’Auditori de Barcelona, and El Primer Palau 2020 from the Palau de la Música -where she received the Critics Award-, among others. As a soloist, she has performed together with the Jove Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, the Orquestra Camera Musicae, the JONC Filharmonia, the Bruckner Akademie Orchester and the Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers. She has played under the direction of Gilles Apap, Tomàs Grau, Manel Valdivieso, Jordi Mora, Guy van Waas and Joel Bardolet. Until 2018, she played a cello made by Marc Laberte (1921) for Pablo Casals. She later played a Martin Haupt cello (2018) and is currently performing with a cello by David Bagué (2019).

I adapt to the needs of the student, always trying to work on all aspects that imply playing an instrument. For me, it is not only important to work on technique but also on musicality, and that’s why I encourage the student to explore and express their creativity through the cello.
