About

Born in Ireland and currently based in Berlin, Leonie fell in love with the clarinet at age 11 due to her teacher Philipp at her local music school, and always wanted to inspire music in others the same way she had experienced during her lessons. She went on to receive a BA in Music Performance from the Royal Irish Academy of Music and an MA in Music Performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Leonie has been teaching clarinet for over 14 years, both privately and in music schools across Ireland, the UK and Germany, with students aged from 4 to adults. She is also an active musician, specialising in classical and contemporary music. Leonie is a member of the Crash Ensemble - Ireland’s foremost contemporary music ensemble, with whom she has taken part in numerous premieres and tours. She enjoys playing solo projects as well as freelancing with orchestras and ensembles including the National Concert Orchestra of Ireland, the Britten Pears Orchestra, Camerata Ireland and the Kirkos Ensemble.

Her aim is to bring music to as many people as possible, either through performance or teaching, and inspire new generations to broaden their horizons creatively through the medium of music.

Over my 14 years of teaching experience, I have developed a very intuitive approach to lessons and tailor lessons to each individual student. I take into account the students aims and goals as well as their musical preferences, but also like to challenge and encourage new genres or techniques.

My lessons will often have a similar format, beginning with short warm-ups and technique, work on repertoire, followed by some practical music theory or music history, generally inspired by what we worked on in the lesson.

I believe every person has musical ability and can learn music, but there is no right way to learn. I really enjoy finding new ways to inspire students to discover new skills and passions, and no matter what level they achieve, that they can take something away from the experience that they will hold on to for a lifetime.
