About

Kevin Maa recieved his Bachelors of Cello Performance from Montclair State University's Cali School of Music (2018). He is on track to graduate with his Masters in Cello Performance in May 2020 from Mannes School of Music at The New School. He currently studies with Yehuda Hanani, world renown Israeli cellist and graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, student of Leonard Rose and Pablo Casals.

Kevin began teaching private piano lessons in 2014 and began teaching private cello lessons in 2015. He has been part of RMC Studios from 2016-2018 as a private piano and strings teacher. He has also worked in TEA Studios from 2017-2018 as a cello and piano teacher. Since 2018, he has taught private lessons at Mannes.

Kevin has taken specific string education classes such as String Technical Studies at Rutgers University under the direction of Betsy Mailszewski and String Pedagogy under the direction of Frances Rowell. He continues to enrich himself in the world of music through masterclasses and cello talks such as ones by David Finckel, Joshua Roman, and Yo-Yo Ma.

My teaching style differs from student to student catering to their individual needs and ambitions. Skill level and interest for music can have a huge impact on how I conduct a lesson. I like to push my students to be the best they can be at the same time create a love for the instrument.

I do like to structure lessons with a general order such as the following

1. Warm up & Scales

2. Etude/Technical piece

3. Solo piece

4. Recap and instructions for next lesson

Mason Gross School of the Arts - Rutgers University 2013-2015
Cali School of Music - Montclair State University 2015-2018
Mannes School of Music - The New School 2018-2020
RMC Studios 2016-2018
TEA Studios 2017-2018

After a trial lesson, I can better access what appropriate method books and music to assign.
