About

I began playing the cello at the age of 5. My father Michael Flaksman, a world-renowned American cellist and teacher, was one of the major influences of my teaching and playing. I attended the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Juilliard School, and the University of Mannheim in Germany. I participated in masterclasses throughout Europe, learning from all the great masters, and performed with various orchestras in Germany, including the National theater Mannheim, Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, and the philharmonics of Heidelberg and Ludwigshafen, gaining invaluable musical knowledge and experience. In 2015 I was appointed Assistant Principal Cello in the Santa Barbara Symphony and moved to Los Angeles. I play in many orchestras throughout California, as well as record for major motion pictures and music albums.

I enjoy playing, composing, arranging, and producing music in all genres.

My father and the many world-class artists with whom I have played instilled in me an extensive understanding and appreciation of the musical traditions of classical technique and interpretation.

I feel a responsibility to share the musical knowledge I’ve gained to more people including younger generations. I want to give everyone the opportunity to continue the great classical music tradition. I also strive to open up new avenues of music making, using traditional classical techniques to create music in any genre.

I began teaching when I was in high school, teaching children and coaching fellow students in the youth orchestra. When I moved to Germany I often coached other students and assisted teaching my father’s cello and chamber music classes at the University of Mannheim. I have had private students of all ages and abilities, taught at schools ranging from pre-K to college, and given masterclasses in Germany, Italy, and the USA.

I offer lessons for all levels in cello, violin, and viola.

I offer individual and ensemble coaching for all instruments and voice to students and professionals who are preparing for auditions, competitions, and performances.

My students have gained entrance to prestigious universities, and I’ve helped fellow musicians win orchestral auditions and competition prizes.

I use traditional string teaching methods drawn from many influences including Suzuki, Sevcik, Leopold Mozart, and Lucien Capet.
