Aloha!

My name is Gunner. I am a Hawaiian Classical and Electric guitarist, with strong background knowledge of rock and reggae music as well. I enjoy matching beginners and advanced musicians alike with fresh outlooks on how to further their musical foundation. I have extensive training in Western Classical and traditional Hawaiian music. I am also experienced with maintaining and restoring vintage electronics, instruments, and tape machines. I have considerable experience in performing with live bands, session work, arranging, recording, as well as musical directing for Rock, Reggae, and Roots bands. Originally from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, I moved to Oahu to study Classical guitar at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where I graduated in 2017. I relocated to Nashville, Tennessee in 2019 to further pursue my musical career and study instrument repair with Franklin Guitar and Repair.

My students range in age from 5 to over 80.

If the times in my availability calendar don’t work for you, please send me a message and we will find a time that works!

I teach students easy music theory that can be applied to any genre of music. I enjoy working with students of all levels, absolute beginner to advanced. Specializing in nylon and electric guitar. My style of teaching is based in music function and how the fretboard can be simplified with or without prior music theory knowledge. I grew up with Hawaiian, Rock, and Classical styles. I can teach both guitar and bass for set ups as well. (I can do ukulele set up lessons additionally, but it requires invasive modifications- contact for more info)

Nylon guitar lessons concentrate on learning the basics of nylon technique, understanding different rhythms, and acquiring a repertoire of exercises and solo material in a variety of song forms. Electric guitar lessons center around learning and refining guitar technique, approaches to interpretation, and building a well-rounded and interesting repertoire that includes songs from many styles and eras.

I also offer lessons pertaining to pedal board consulting, studio performance preparation, live performance preparation, dynamic relaxation, and mastering performance anxiety.
