About

I am based in England, I perform and teach near Nottingham.  Click the photo then tap arrow to scroll to video file. Thank you.

At the age of 6 I started playing the Cornet and enjoyed playing in Brass Bands throughout my school years. At 16 I studied A' level music at Clarendon College Nottingham and studied trumpet with Dave Hinson and Gerald Douglas. I performed with local orchestra including Nottingham Chamber Orchestra and Nottingham Philharmonic, also Nottinghamshire Schools County Concert Band and Orchestra, Clarendon College Brass Ensemble and Choir.<br/>

In 1991 I accepted a place at Birmingham Conservatoire studying with Andrew Culshaw and Alan Whitehead gaining a Bachelors' Degree with Honours in 1995.

In 1996, I started my teaching career in East Sussex as a keyboard/piano teacher for several Primary and Secondary Schools then in 1998 I was employed by Brighton and Hove Music Service to teach trumpet. After recruitment of many new students for the Music Service I relocated to Nottinghamshire in 2001.

Currently I have a freelance musical career including teaching in several schools in Nottinghamshire. My work with 'The Soul Solution' ( 2001- present) sees me performing nationwide in a variety of venues for many different occasions. I work with many Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Ensembles including Brass Bands, Brass Quintets,Orchestras, Wind Bands, Big Bands and Choral Societies when required.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Music (Hons) Degree from Birmingham Conservatoire , England, incorporating a teaching qualification to diploma level .Experienced with all ages and abilities.

Studied with Andrew Culshaw (Fine Arts Brass Ensemble) and

Alan Whitehead(City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra)

My teaching style will be adapted to the student dependent upon age and ability. Primary school age students will be taught using language they can understand easily - uncomplicated, enthusiastic . More advanced students naturally will see me being a little more fussy with my demands yet it will still be a fun and jovial experience.

I have a keen interest in the inner workings of embouchure development, how the tongue works, how the air behaves, dissecting my own performance for knowledge and seeking input from Trumpet Masters in the UK

Bachelor of Music (Hons)

I will teach from any book with beginners i.e A Tune a Day/Team Brass and moving through Reinhardt/Vizzutti for more advanced students.
