About

Gavin grew up in Snoqualmie, Washington and studied guitar with Davey French, guitarist of the rock band Everclear for 6+ plus years. At the age of 16, he started to play guitar in multiple cover bands while also participating in the Mount Si Band program. In 2012, Gavin began teaching private and group guitar classes at Big Star Studios in his hometown of Snoqualmie. It was during this time where he discovered his passion for teaching music. After graduating in 2014, he decided to study guitar performance at McNally Smith College of Music in Minnesota before transferring to study upright bass at Central Washington University with one of the most elite bass players in the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Anna Jensen.  At Central, Gavin has played guitar for select groups such as the CWU Jazz Band I, and was a section leader for the CWU Marching Band Leadership Team for two years. During his time at CWU, Gavin performed with some of the worlds most renown jazz artists. This includes John Clayton, Terell Stafford,  Brian Lynch, and the Grammy award winning Cuban musician, Dafnis Prieto. Currently, Gavin performs regularly with a folk band originating from North Bend, WA, Tinkham Road, as well as being a guitar/bass instructor for Big Star Studios and the 4/4 School of Music. My goal as a teacher is to promote creativity and provide students with the skills to become the best musician they can be! I believe that music has the ability to spark a person's creativity, and it is my goal to create that spark.
As your teacher, I will:

-Be on time and prepared for our lessons.
-Make sure that I am available to help or answer any questions you may have.
-Give you the tools necessary to grow as a musician.

I have worked as Private Guitar/Bass Instructor over the last 8 years and have worked with over a hundred students, all ranging in age and ability. I am currently finishing my B.A in Music at CWU and am working as a private guitar instructor for the 4/4 School of Music in Newcastle, and Big Star Studios in Snoqualmie.
