About

Hi, I am Catalina, Professional Flutist based nowadays in Brazil. Most of my career has taken place in Austria, where I finished further studies like Master's degree in Concert Flute, Bachelor's degree in Instrumental Pedagogy for Flute and Bachelor's degree in Jazz flute at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austria.

I was born in Colombia and started playing flute when I was 11 years old. I have dedicated all my life to the Flute … FLUTE IS MY PASSION!. After finishing my Concert Bachelor Degree, I started to perform professionally (mostly classical) at the age of 18 in Colombia and some few years later I decided to move to Europe. Since the beginning I has been playing both flute and piccolo in orchestras, symphonic bands and chamber music ensembles, as well as in jazz and world music projects.

My experience as teacher started very early in Colombia, but it was consolidated in Austria, where I have been teaching for more than 13 years at the Upper Austrian State Music Schools, having students ranging from age of 7 through adults.

After living 3 years in Sao Paulo, exposed to the fascinating music styles of Brazil, I´m now located back in Austria. I greatly enjoy teaching and look forward to exciting flute lessons, which can take place in German, English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Since every person is different, creative approaches are also needed to find the ideal way of playing for every student. Therefore, numerous teaching resources will be used to assist in the understanding of certain contents, making the experience more concrete and pleasant for the student. This includes contemporary techniques, breath and posture exercises, body percussion, and some other exercises that will even surprise you. In addition, musical theoretical concepts such as rhythm, solfeggio and sheet music will be addressed. In working with the repertoire, musical pieces will be proposed throughout the course according to the interest and musical level of each student. I look for a variety in the pieces including different musical periods and styles, ranging from baroque and classical to pop and latin american music.
