Beverly Mintz
About
Beverly is a versatile musician and teacher who has performed and taught numerous styles of music, including classical, rock, pop, musical theater, jazz, country, and more. She is especially skilled at teaching violin and viola from beginner through advanced levels, and she also has years of experience teaching piano, voice, and beginning cello to students of all ages. Beverly is currently a member of Central Texas Philharmonic and Baroque con Brio chamber ensemble. She is the instructor for Central Texas Philharmonic's fifth grade strings program at Joe Lee Johnson STEAM Academy in Round Rock ISD and is a part-time teacher for iPianoLab in the Austin area. She has sung professionally in Houston Chamber Choir as well as in multiple church and synagogue choirs. Her students have won local, regional, and state contests and auditions and have gained admission to top university music programs. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY and has previously been a faculty member of Vivaldi Music Academy and In Home Music Teachers, both in Houston. She has also taught private students in Clear Lake ISD (Houston) and Round Rock ISD public schools, as well as in her home studio.
My students would say I'm tough but gentle. I will gently push to get correct notes, rhythm, style, etc., but I will also heap praise on my students when they work hard and make progress. I don't consider myself intimidating and feel that I learn as much from my students as they learn from me! My students constantly introduce me to wonderful music and artists I would not have discovered on my own. I like to be challenged, and I like to challenge my students by moving them ahead into new material as quickly as they can go. It can be an amazing experience for a student to look at a new piece of music that seems impossibly difficult and then be taught how to perform it successfully within a few weeks.

In general, I use methods and books that are used by top music teachers and schools around the country. Since I teach multiple instruments, I won't list everything here. In choosing teaching methods and materials, I also consider each student's musical goals, any previous musical training or experience they have had, and their age. I will only recommend buying the most essential books and will typically provide free digital copies of other sheet music.
