Described by American composer John Corigliano as  “a virtuoso and a sensitive artist,” flutist Anastasia Petanova is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where she received her Bachelor’s of Music and Artist Diploma studying with Marina Piccinini. A winner of numerous prizes and awards, Ms. Petanova has performed extensively as recitalist and soloist with orchestras in Russia, countries of the former Soviet Union, Europe, U.S.A. and Canada. Concert venues include Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Tonhalle in Zurich, Max Joseph Zaal in Munich, Toronto Center for the Arts, Bolshoi Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Bolshoi Theatre, The Phillips Collection, and many others. Ms. Petanova has served as an adjunct professor of flute at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, and as adjunct faculty at the SUNY Fredonia School of Music. In December 2019, she received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music.

Ms. Petanova plays on a flute by Brannen Brothers Inc. that has been generously awarded and given to her by maestro Vladimir Spivakov in 2004.

My teaching philosophy is to inspire, educate, and guide my students towards their musical goals and dreams. My job as an educator is to provide the necessary information, advice, and inspiration to students who wish to improve their skills on flute and increase their potential for musical expression. Students who choose to learn how to play flute vary greatly in age, educational and cultural backgrounds. I recognize that every student is different and may require a unique teaching approach. In the past, I have worked privately with beginner, intermediate, and advanced students (children and adults), international students with little or no English skills, undergraduate and graduate flute majors (at The Peabody Conservatory of Music), and taught Class Flute and Flute Ensemble (at the State University of New York at Fredonia and University of Nevada- Las Vegas, respectively). These teaching experiences helped me to develop my own educational methods that I improved over the years. I look forward to sharing them with the students here, on LessonFace.com.
