About

Hello! I am a horn teacher in Lexington, Kentucky. I've been teaching both horn and piano for over 20 years in my private studio, and have been teaching online since March of 2020. I'm the current applied horn instructor at Transylvania University, in Lexington, Kentucky.  I also serve as principal horn in the Central Kentucky Concert Band.  Along with teaching both horn and piano, I compose music for students.

**Please confirm a lesson time with me prior to booking, as I have current students not on the LessonFace platform and the schedules may conflict. The 15-minute lesson is for a free consultation. Thank you, and I'm looking forward to working with you!**

When I teach, I always start from where the student currently is in their playing ability, and work from there. The first lesson or two will be spent gauging a student's abilities and interests. I focus on providing a professional, engaging lesson in a positive environment. I tailor the curriculum to the student.

There are several technical facets of horn playing we will work on, such as breathing, range, endurance, and flexibility, as well as musical considerations such as tone, phrasing, and articulation. Another important part of our lessons will include instructions on how to practice, and which practice techniques work best in a variety of situations.

In order to address these areas, I work with my students to select appropriate technical studies, longer etudes, and solo pieces (both accompanied and unaccompanied).

I am a member of the International Horn Society, the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Music Teachers National Association, and the Horn Club of Central Kentucky.

I use a variety of methods and texts in my teaching, based on the student's abilities and interests.
