Bach for the Rock Guitarist
COURSE DESCRIPTION
In the three live sessions, the participants will work on three of the Six Sonatas for violin by J.S. Bach. All are fully transcribed by Duane Denison and are in tablature with fingerings provided.
These pieces are not easy to play.
The objective is to develop and/or maintain a solid all-around technique through playing the Bach pieces in plectrum style (with a pick) on electric or acoustic guitar. Memorization is crucial. Each piece of music contains a variety of technical situations (scale patterns, arpeggios, slurs, hammer-ons, etc) that will challenge the player but are enjoyable and rewarding as pieces of music in and of themselves.
This class will be suitable for advanced guitarists of all genres.
ABOUT DUANE DENISON
Duane Denison first came to public notice through his work with Chicago based alternative rock band The Jesus Lizard, whose albums "Goat" and "Liar" made Rolling Stone magazine's "Top 100 Albums of the 90's" list. He has since gone on to perform and record with a variety of bands and artists, including Tomahawk, The Unsemble, Hank Williams III, Beverley Knight, and numerous others. Mr Denison holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music from Eastern Michigan University and has studied guitar with such notable figures as Juan Serrano and Paul Warren, among others. He began performing with local rock outfits at the age of 15 and within a few years was teaching guitar as well.
Students can attend the classes online, over video conference, interacting in real time with each other and Duane. The class sessions will also be recorded, so enrolled students may watch any sessions they miss, and review the sessions later.
WHEN
The live classes will occur from 5-6 pm ET on March 17, 31, and April 14, 2018.
LEVEL
HOW IT WORKS
This class will be taught from Duane's studio in Nashville to a live online audience. Students are able to attend by joining over the Lessonface high performing video conference platform. Class recordings will be posted to the private class page on Lessonface within 48 hours of the live class.
